Wilbur 8 1/2 year old 13.1 refined looking welsh cross. Wilbur has been with me for 3 1/2 years he is now ready for a loving new owner. He would make a wonderful pony for an experienced child or small adult. He is very quiet/safe to work around, he has never offered to kick or bite, he has no vices. He was recently used as a demo horse last fall at Tufts in Grafton when I was asked by Dr. Laura Carmel to teach first year vet students about horse behavior. Wilbur and I had five groups of 10-15 students. They wormed Wilbur with applesauce (he actually LOVED until he had his fill, then with an empty syringe). They practiced picking up feet, leading etc. Wilbur was a star! Wilbur cross ties, single ties, self loads on the trailer, rides like a dream. Gets along well with other horses. He's got great rock hard feet, never chips or cracks. He goes on trails through water over bridges and on roads. He goes first or last in a group. He is ridden in a bitless bridle or halter and two lead ropes. He is VERY responsive to seat and voice commands. He has been ridden by an 8 year old, 10year old, 14 year old and 15 year old but mostly by me. He has has only been ridden about 35 times, but I can pull him out of the pen and hop on. I usually ride him bareback as I don't want to add the weight of a saddle to mine. I've ridden him in an English saddle mostly. I know he would not be good for a novice or fearful rider as recently a novice adult rode him, she must have gripped him and he bolted on her. (He had never done this since I have owned him) He had just been ridden by myself and another trainer with no problems in an indoor with mirrors. We both jumped him over painted rails his second time ever jumping cross rails. But as soon as the other person got on him he became fearful. Thankfully she pulled him to a stop. He never bucked, she never tried to do a one rein stop that I had demonstrated that Wilbur does automatically. I rode him immediately after she dismounted and he was fine, responsive. I want to make sure Wilbur goes to a great home he deserves it. If he trust his rider he will go through fire for them ( I have not actually tested that one!) Call me if you'd like to come give Wilbur a look! |
